Hooking up 2 EXTRA monitors....

I have a laptop that has one port for another monitor, and I was thinking about getting a 2nd extra monitor so i could 8 table with no overlap. This question doesn't really pertain to a laptop only, but i found thing USB converter to allow me to hook up a 2nd monitor...question is... is there a chance my graphics card wont support 3 total monitors?

My first inclinations say yes. I believe the rule is one monitor per video card, but I am no expert.
