Dude, Skynyrd is the best band ever. Cant beat sitting back and listening to Mississippi Kid or Simple Man while playing cards.

I like trip-hop for poker... Portishead's Dummy is my favorite album to put on.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow, never thought I'd find another Portishead/trip-hop fan on a poker board. I would actually follow up "Dummy" with Hooverphonic's first album and maybe the first Garbage to set a harder edge on the evening.

Other mental iPod playlists for poker:

* Rat Pack era medley
* Late 70s/early 80s punk and lots of it
* Late 90s drum'n'bass (also good for late-night first-person shooter network bloodfests)
* Dunno if any of you folks are in the NYC area and/or listen to WFMU online or on the air (91.1, wfmu.org), but Music to Spazz By and Fool's Paradise would also be good mood music for a sleazy night of cards.

Recently in my home game, though, it's been baseball -- Yankees rise and fall -- which at least had the effect of defocusing my opponents (football for me!).

How about Massive Attack then?

One of my favorites!

I agree with most of the above posts. Classic rock is the best choice (Get the Lynard Skynard best of CD). However, don't play it too loud. I used to like my music loud in my younger days, but not when I'm playing poker.

In my home game I like to have a TV or 2 going with sports on. Saturday nights are good for a good Pac-10 or WAC College footbal game. Later in the night when the sports are over, then put on the Skynard best of CD.

Good Luck

I'm totally joking about repeat - but it is the best poker song I know of!

My current poker playlist on my ipod has;
Chris Clark, Autechre, HUM, Refused, Beatles, Squarepusher, Miles Davis, Helmet, Cursive, Sinatra..... I think anything can be "poker music".

Pretty much any music will do. They have played Oldies, Classic Rock, 70s Disco, Country and alternative(or whatever they call that now) music at the card room. I played a local PBS radio folk music(folk, blue grass, blues, gospel, country, jazz...) show at my home game once and everybody appreciated the refreshing change from the 18 songs that most other stations play.

Definitely! They'd fit right in.

Another idea I had was to assemble a long playlist that went from spaghetti Western music into crime jazz and ended up with the James Bond theme. This might be one of those situations where my winnings would have to get recycled into mood music.

I'm not actually much of a trip-hop fan, mainly due to lack of listening... but I love Portishead, and I like the little I've heard of Hooverphonic.

My friends all loved Dummy for poker... a few found it suspenseful, the others said it was relaxing
