Default Post Blind or Wait for blinds when sitting down?

This is my calculation for whehter or not to post blinds or wait for blinds when joining a new table.

Lets say my winrate is 1 PTBB/100. This is 0.01 PTBB / hand. Then I make 2 Big Blinds / 100 hands, or 0.02 Big Blind / hand expected.

Lets say I join a table. The equation is: # seats away from BB * 0.01 PTBB/hand > PTBB/2. The left side of the equation is the amount of money I shoudl make if I can play those hands (same thing as # hands * EV per hand). The right side of the equation is the amount to post blinds.

As long as left side is greater than right side, it is profitable to post blinds. For a 1PTBB/100, the equilibrium position from blinds is 0.50 PTBB / 0.01 PTBB = 50. Thus I need to sit 50 seats away from the big blind. As we can see, it is NOT PROFITABLE TO POST BLINDS AT ALL for a 1PTBB/100 win rate.

I play at micro-limits and change tables quite frequently -- I try to be on a table with over 55% seeing the flop.

I usually pay the blinds if I'm just off the button.

If I'm half-way round from the blinds I multi-table until its my turn.

I do this because if I change tables, say four times in an hour, thats 2 big bets per hour Your getting negative EV in the blinds.

I forgot to mention that I complete the round I've already paid the blinds for. Not doing this is going to add more to the bb/hour loss.

How is he an idiot? His reply makes sense.

Though, my calculations show with a 1 BB/100 win rate, that it is NOT advantageous to post blind at all!

The OP's analysis makes no sense at all -- he is confused in several places.

If you post in the BB then you will be paying 1.5SB to see 10 hands (assume you are playing 10 handed). This means you pay 0.15SB for each hand. If you post behind the button, say in the CO, then you will pay 1SB to see 7 hands. This is 0.143SB per hand. So there is almost no difference whatsoever between posting in the BB or posting in the CO.

Posting in the hijack gives 0.167SB per hand; 0.2SB in MP2; 0.25SB in MP1, etc, etc. So it obviously gets worse the closer you get to the BB. However, posting in the CO or in the hijack is nearly the same as posting in the BB.

What does winrate have to do with anything?

I think the problem with it is it's past the point
of statistical hairsplitting. Sure, you may have an
average win rate around 1-2BB/hr (more in very low
limit games), but that is an aggregate over thousands
of hands, or it isn't meaningful at all. To use it to
color a decision that applies to less than one round
of hands is not mathematically or common-sensically
sound. You might gain more by watching the play for
that partial round than by paying to fold 7 or 8
hands; but in any case, you can't make a claim on
the level of statistical aggregrates unless you're
willing to keep track of it over a few thousand
tables.

There's also table image to consider. If I see someone
post up right away anywhere but the cut-off, I figure
they're a complete rube and attack them.
