With your ace kicker, yes I think it's an auto-raise on the river.

On the flop the big blind was expecting and (in this case) hoping for a flop raise from you. Of course you're taking a chance that his bet-out was just exploratory, but if it was you aren't getting much more than a couple check-calls anyway, regardless of what you do on the flop. So I would have raised it there, too. The button's going to fold anyway, regardless of what you do.
