Default I\'m going to buy a bigscreen/plasma tomorrow. Help me.

It has just become possible for me to fit a bigscreen in my home, and I want to get one ASAP. However, I know very little about them. I don't really have alot of preferences on them. I would preferable get one around 52 inches or so, and probably one with HDTV. I definitely won't spend over 3000, and would rather spend like 2000. I mainly want one that will be reliable, will look good, and is easy to install/operate.

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated it. Links would be great.

P.S. I've looked at some TVs at Sam's Club and they seem to be good with low prices. Anyone know if they carry any worth buying?

Are you looking for one that sits down, or one for your wall?

One word: projector.

I got me a $750 infocus projector a while ago and have never looked back: 8 foot screen in a tiny room and excellent picture. Doesn't take up any space and weighs a fraction of a TV...

Definitely one that sits on the ground for now. No place to hang it in our current living room.

That one is only 37 inches and doesn't seem to sit up off the ground enough to stand alone. I'd really rather have one that stands alone.

get a sony KDF-50WE655 50" lcd. it will be under 3k at best buy. you're not going to get a good quality plasma for that price, and it's preferrable to avoid dlp because even if you don't see rainbows your roommates/guests might. the 'one word: projector' is a bad idea for general viewing, those should really only be used in a windowless basement or theater room. based on what i've seen in similar threads i'm reasonably certain i know more about buying tvs than anybody on 2+2 (or at least anybody who posts about it).

the cheapest big hdtvs you're going to find will be rear projection crts. they're huge, are vulnerable to burn-in, often have reflection issues, geometry issues, convergence issues, and most people strongly prefer natively higher brightness/contrast sets like lcds/dlps/plasmas even if they give up a bit in black levels and color purity.
