Default another champagne related thread

anyone tried Veueve Cliquot? I've seen it in stores and heard it's supposed to be pretty good, but is it worth dropping $50 on?

It is good. It's not VERY good, but it's a good value for champagne. Seriously though, if you're really worried about dropping $50 on one bottle, get a handle of Maker's and a 6 pack of newcastle instead.

I'm not worried about paying 50 bucks. But a 6 pack of Newcastle sounds delicious.

Depends on what you like in your champagnes.

yeah it is nice. but not any nicer than Piper Heidsieck IMO, which you should be able to find for about $25.

As Veuve continues to become ever more ubiquitous, its price keeps rising. Sure it's decent and easy to obtain, but you can find many other champagnes that offer you a higher price to quality ratio.

As slamdunkpro stated in the Thanksgiving wine thread, Montaudon Brut is a great value (and if you think $27 is good, the price I was getting for restaurant sale was nuts).

Comte Audoin de Dampierre is another good somewhat under the radar selection.

As far as mainstream products go, I would select Bollinger, Pol Roger and Laurent-Perrier ahead of Yellow Label.
