$1 SNG bluffing question

Ok, 7 players left $1 SNG... top 3 place... start with 2k chips

I have 2000 chips in the SB blinds are 100-200.

All the other stacks are pretty healthy...

Folded around to me in SB I have 55
I min raise player to my left to 400 (he has 3100 chips)

Flop is J62 rainbow

I bet 400 into the 800 pot...

He raises allin... I think about it and fold.

How was my play?

Do you guys also like to bet out after a raise preflop?

I didn't want to raise more preflop because 3x would've been 600 and then I'd be kind of crippled I thought.

Comments please and any advice on how to play when you are short like this and trying to take pots

You've only got 10 BB's so maybe it's a good time for a race. Either push or fold preflop.

All in preflop is probably better. I think you would rather have him fold than try to get more chips out of him by letting him see the flop.

First of all, $1 SnG and bluffing shouldn't be in the same sentence if it's not to say that you should never bluff in those very low buy-ins. Bluffing is only profitable if it works often enough, and that will never happen in a $1. Just stick with the cards, and that's it.

As for your hand, just push PF.

I dont think you have enough chips to be min raising pre or post flop. if I were the BB it looks to me like you are not committed to your hand and I would re-raise you and take the pot away just like the BB did. This is why people say to push or fold pre-flop, you take away the bigger stacks ability to out play you after the flop.

FWIW, I didn't start launching bluffs until I hit the 109s.
Sorry, I didn't even read the post. You're not bluffing here. You bluff when you want someone to lay down a better hand. That probably isn't going to happen on this board.

Ok thanks for the very informative posts.... I took a long break from poker (used to play $10s and $20s... roi of like .66 and itm about .55) and now I just suck so I'm starting from the bottom and moving up.

So basically its ok to take a coin flip here... thanks

I use semi-bluffs, late position pre-flop raises and continuation bets constantly in mid-late game situations in $2 and $5 SNGs with great success.

Keys being observing enough hands to tell calling stations from tight/weak and taking advantage stacks you can cover on the bubble.

I don't see how you can consistently last until the later blinds by playing tight.
