I have to diagree here. Dr. Al comes at it from a different angle, which I like. He covers the issues a player faces internally, playing the various styles. His analytical perspective lays bare the actual facts about the personal psychology of the game, and he strongly denounces denial in all the forms it takes. The way he enumerates the pros and cons of each style is pretty interesting when you think abotu how important it is to be able to adjust to any game. This is usually done by varying your style of play, perhaps radically, from table to table and game to game.

Each book is a pittance. Get both.

Yes I agree...definitely get both books. POP has more fundamental concepts of poker players in general...and Inside the poker mind is a little more indepth into certain issues...Feeney's book seems like it is more of a collection of essays on his opinions about stuff...sound opinions though. Personally I found Feeney's book kind of difficult to read; that is, terribly boring.

Schoonmakers book was excellent IMO. If you understand the concepts in Schoonmakers book then there would be no need to buy Feeney's.

Schoonmaker breaks player psychology down to the most basic level. Once you have a firm grasp of your opponents playing style (as well as your own) you can have a better idea on how to approach the game, etc...

Feeney's book just says the above, but he does not lay it out as clinically or intelligently as Schoonmaker.

I agree. John's book is MUCH more advanced than mine, and he is a MUCH better player than I am.

Mason published both on the same day, and they are aimed at different audiences. Mine is for people who need basic help; John's is for people who already understand the basics.

If you are an advanced player, you probably don't need my book, but you should certainly buy John's. If you are not an advanced player, you would probably benefit from reading mine and then his.

I must add that many people feel they are advanced players, but really do not understand either poker strategy or its psychology. Unless you have solid evidence that you are an advanced player, don't assume that you are one.

while i think i got more out of john's book, and i am an advanced player, i think you book is very helpful for both beginners and advanced players. read both.
