Default Scrabble on ESPN2 right now

I get a kick out of watching this after seeing the movie Word Wars (mockumentry of pro scrabble players).

Anyone else?

Competitive Scrabble leaves me feeling strangely empty. It seems like at least half of the words played on a board are not commonly used English words. I realize that concessions like that are necessary to make it a more skillful game for the top level players, but it's definitely on a different planet than recreational Scrabble.

I think you have the definition of "mockumentary" all wrong.

Word Wars was a documentary. Best in Show, The Office are mockumentaries. Just to clarify, since it makes it seem like the characters in Word Wars aren't real.

I liked Word Wars a lot. The guy from the ghetto made the movie. Going to TJ before the championships to get a hooker had me cracking up.

This is kinda gay. They use words that don't figure into normal language. That's what I hate about this type of competition. BTW, I'm nasty at scrabble. Is there somewhere online to play?

Google Internet Scrabble Club, sign up, and quickly, quickly be disabused of your notions about how nasty you are. Against people who don't play competitive Scrabble, I'm generally quite good. There, I can barely compete with the people at the bottom of the rating ladder, and couldn't realistically at all without using the lists of legal 2s and 3s that they provide.

One more post in here to recognize the humor of G.I. (Gastrointestinal Joel) with the close-up of his bottle of Maalox and the note that he sometimes belches during games.

Yes, that's what I want to be known for.

Ok, I didn't know that thanks for the HU.

Anyway, it was funny you all should see it. It reminds me of my days as a serious MTG player.
