Default Poker in Santiago, Chile?

Obscure, but wondering if anyone here had any info.

I'm heading to Santiago, Chile for a school project next March. I hear they have casinos there that run poker games, but I don't know much about it at all.

1) Does anyone know of a good one?
2) What poker games do they play there?
3) Anything unique about them or anything else I should know?

Any help is appreciated.

You should check with the blogger of PokerInChile http://pokerinchile.blogspot.com/, who spent 9 months there and developed his game -- mainly online. Also check out his blog of life in Santiago... http://home.comcast.net/~mniesse/
There's also The Poker Pilot blog, http://pokerpilot.blogspot.com/, a Chilean guy who would be a good contact for your re: games.

You'll enjoy Santiago. It's a great place.
The nearest casino is in Viņa del Mar, which is on the Pacific coast. The casino has those poker games you play against the house, but they don't have any stud or hold 'em type games. The same goes for the second-closest casino, which is in Mendoza, Argentina, just across the border.
I don't know of any casino close to Santiago that has real poker.
There are no limit Texas hold 'em tournaments held occasionally in Santiago. They are organized by this Web page: pokerchile.cl.
Good luck! Feel free to contact me if you want any more info.

if you ask on the phone 'do you have a poker?' and all they have is Caribbean Stud and Let it Ride and 3-card Poker (all are considered 'carnival' games...it's just another game against the casino) then they will usually say 'yes' because they really don't know any better.

When I dealt blackjack at a casino that did not have a poker-room we started getting customers in asking 'where's the poker?' and saying that they were told on the phone that there was poker here.
Sometimes the floor-person would direct them to the caribbean-stud or 3-card poker tables to which the customer would generally say look like they were thinking "WTF?!?! This isn't poker dude?!?!"

So just beware of places that SAY they have poker...because they might not actually know any better.

Thank you all for the advice. Wasn't sure if I'd get any responses. Best of luck to you all.
