Default One Big Bet per Hour?

The expected win rate of one big bet per hour for an expert is often bandied about as a reasonable expectation in live limit hold em.

At what limit does this figure become unrealistic even for the expert player?

I don't think the expectation in terms of big bets goes down as the limits go up. Of course, the definition of "expert" changes, a $1/$2 expert might be a fish at $250/$500. Then again, he might not.

At very low limits, there's less competitive pressure. If you were making 5 BB per hour at $1/$2, you might not attract other players because the pay per hour is too low, even given the extremely limited risk. But at very high limits you can get a similar phenomenom. Many good players cannot afford to play that high, or can't get into the games. You might find the greatest pressure on win rates at a mid-level game.

Correct me if I am wrong but I did not believe it would be possible to average 5 big bets per hour in a live limit holdem game, assuming 30-35 hands per hour, no matter how big the disparity in skill between the expert and the opponents.

I believe David Sklansky has written that the winners in the highest stakes games can only expect to win a fraction of 1 big bet per hour. My question was based upon this assumption and I was wondering at what stakes level this phenomenon begins.

Unless you mean in a single session or two you sir are wrong. Blind monkeys would suck out on you enough to stop you from winning five big bets oer hour over a reasonable period of time in a B&M.

At lower limits, 2 big bets an hour can be possible.

Generally, the higher you go, (above 20-40) the lesser BB/Hour you make as you will face tougher players. But the monetary part of the bet makes up for that.

I think Mason touched on this in one of his Essays books.

No one is regularly averaging 5 bets an hour in any live limit ring game.
