Default PS 20+2: I play a couple of hands badly I think

The tournament is just getting started. I hadn't played any of the first 5 hands nor do I have any reads yet. The next two hands happened in succession. I think they're both pretty bad, but I don't know what I should be doing. I'm a noob to MMT so be gentle.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

BB (t2170)
UTG (t1280)
UTG+1 (t1700)
MP1 (t1720)
MP2 (t1460)
MP3 (t680)
CO (t1460)
Button (t1590)
Hero (t1480)

Preflop: Hero is SB with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
7 folds, Hero raises to t60, BB raises to t100, Hero calls t40.

Flop: (t200) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets t200, Hero raises to t600, BB calls t400.

Turn: (t1400) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets t800, Hero folds.

Final Pot: t2200

His PF mini raise combined with him calling the flop raise (which I don't know is the right move either) scared me. I figured my only two choice on the turn were all-in or c/f.

Basically I thought I had the best hand and wanted to take the pot down right there. I figured I was pot committed if I raised ~300 and I didn't want people getting a discount to call.

i like the push in hand 2. hand 1 i can't imagine i don't go broke, i think i c/r allin on the flop. but maybe i'm spewing.

Hand 2 I like, fairly sure I am broke on hand 1 though. I think i would have made a continuation bet on the flop instead of the c/r.

i would go for a larger preflop raise on hand #1, at least 4 times the BB. you have a marginal hand out of position and really just want to take it down.
as you played it, i'm going broke given that villain is totally unknown and is likely to be awful as it is early in the tournament (though this fluctuates with the buy-in).

on hand #2, i like the raise to 300. yes, you will be pot committed, but you will actually get called by some worse hands that way. if your push gets called, you are likely way behind.

???

I much prefer calling flop, reevaluating turn.

Pushing the flop is just *silly*.

Say I call the flop raise in hand 1 and get the same turn. What do I do?

well. i suck.

Yea, c/r push is pretty bad. And this shows why you should answer posts even if you think they're routine. Because things you're just used to doing and don't question could be ... really bad.

Id call the flop bet, probably check most turns, and make a read based on his bet size/ timing etc.
