Default Another wait till the turn hand

First hand at the table, I posted in the CO. Up to that point I had about 10 hands on UTG, VPIP 50%, no pre-flop raises from him yet.

Party Poker 1.00/2.00 Hold'em (9 handed) link

Preflop: Hero is CO with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG raises, MP1 calls, 2 folds, Hero calls, 1 folds, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: (10.00 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG bets, MP1 calls, Hero ???

I chose to raise right away because that gave me the opportunity to knock out SB and BB NOW, potentially cleaning up a 7, and any overs. I think this is a CLEAR flop raise, but I'm afraid I don't understand this topic well at all.

A month ago I would have waited till the turn here because my edge is small here, and a "blank" increases my equity tremendously, while a 4, 7, or 9 leaves me probably drawing dead.

There are not enough blanks that your hand warrents a raise on teh turn. Half the cards are overs and the others complete str8s, so get your money in, and hopefully get a fold or 2 outta this, good thing u have bdfd and A kicker.

If MP1 had folded, this would be the easiest raise ever. Even though he called, it still seems like a fairly straightforward raise to me. You can protect your hand from gutshots, you have a good redraw, you get value with the best hand, and you can get away from your hand fairly easily if things turn south.

If UTG hadn't raised preflop, I'd wait for all the standard reasons. However, I'd like to find out if he's on AA-99 as cheaply as possible.

Yes this is a clear raise on the flop. Your hand is super-duper vulnerable and 5-handed is likely to be destroyed by any turn card. Hopefully you can knock some people out on the flop.

I would raise here.

A few things:

This just isn't true. Sure you can be sometimes but "probably" is not the frequency with which I would describe this happening.

Secondly, you can force out some gutshots and hands like QJ from the blinds that you'd like to see leave.

Third, waiting for the turn here poses a problem here. The problem is that if UTG leads the turn again into multiple opponents, your hand is no good the majority of the time and by raising you will be putting in money in as a dog.

And I'd fold preflop.

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't see you posted.

Assuming UTG hadn't raised preflop why would you wait for the turn?

Yeah, I didn't even notice preflop. This is a definite fold for me.

If UTG hadn't raised preflop, the pot would be too small for waiting till the turn to be better IMO.
