Are you doing the standard check-and-see thing on the flop?

It's probably when you check and see what everybody else does first.

I don't think I'm playing this any differently. There was no aggression before or after the flop. The turn card didn't help the board at all. The river card gives someone with 56 a straight. I think you played this one right.

I don't think so. I'd three-bet as well.

*Edit: OK. Maybe a 3-bet is too much, but other than that I don't see a problem.

Someone with 56 already had a straight

65 already had a straight (of course now it is a 6-card straight).

Yeah, it's checking into a big field to see the action behind you. It's usually done with a TPNKish hand out of the blinds; you hope that a late position bettor will autolead if checked to and you'll raise for protection and value. You also get to ditch easily if there's multiple bets back to you.

The reason I'm asking is because we've got a much stronger hand here than most of the times that checking-and-seeing is correct. IMO we have a good enough amount of equity to value-bet; the only players not making a mistake to call with a gutshot are maybe MP3 and button (and only if everyone before them calls too). Plus it seems like we can get away from our hand pretty easily if things get ugly.
