ANyone else dislike phones? No flaming please
I'll start. I have this weird thing about talking on the phone, to be honest I think I actually hate the darn things. I rather communicate in person or through email. Could being an introvert be the reason?
Anyone else feel the same way or am I alone in this? |

I don't mind phones, I hate interruptions.
I often don't answer the phone. Email is good for this reason. While on the phone, though, I don't mind it as a communication medium. |

Re: ANyone else dislike phones? No flaming please
I hate cell phones in particular for several reasons.
1. They are a prop for the pretentious. 2. It is simaliar to wearing a leash people know they should be able to and expect to get a hold of you anytime. 3. They facilitate stupid questions from co-workers. For instance instead of taking two minutes to figure something out, they will take 5 min. to call you. I firmly believe that 85% of the questions I answer on cell calls could be figured out by the person asking the question with minimal thought. |

Re: ANyone else dislike phones? No flaming please
If you're talking about telephones in general, yeah I'm with you on that.
I used to have an aversion to answering the phone. Then, I spent a year working as a tech support/phone answerer. After that, I had a full-blown telephobia. In the decades since, I've just got back to being largely annoyed by phones. My officemates will tell you that whenever the phone rings here in the office, I'm likely to scream "Leave me the hell alone!!!" before answering. My solution is to give no one my phone number, and when I'm home, not bother answering if I'm not in the mood. And to harass the crap out of anyone who tries to phone spam me. |

Re: ANyone else dislike phones? No flaming please
My first real job out of college was as a reservation agent for a major rental car company. For two and a half years, eight hours a day, five days a week I had the same conversation 150-200 times a day (what city, what dates, what time, what type of car etc). When I would get home I would avoid the phone because "my ears were tired".
10+ years and a different job later I still avoid talking on the phone as much as possible. I would much rather talk to you in person or by email. Its too easy to become distracted when you are on the phone.... .... and thats all I have to say about that.... |
