This is just a bad player making an incomprehensible play. I think that he thought his hand was good and you were messing with him. After all, he did have BIG SLICK!!

Although I have never played as high as you are used to playing, it's obvious to me that the high-limit games are completely different than the mid-limit games. It's not too unusual to encounter this sort of thing at a ~2/5 game, especially when it's in a casino and not online.

I dont think his play is bad at all. If he checks you're gonna fire with a worse hand and make him fold a good percentage of the time. your play isnt really consistent with a big spade, so he block bluffs whereas on a non-spade river he probably would check-call (which makes sense to me given your image)

he called a medium sized bet from an aggro bluffing plyr w/ TPTK.
how is that bad?

some people need to re-read the section in HoH Vol. 2 about the dark tunnel bluff.

It was really the "ah ha!" moment for me in the world of poker.

This is what happens when you downshift so many gears at once, it's hard to go from playing your best game vs tough opposition at 10/25 to letting donks hand you their money at 2/5.

He thought he had the best hand on the turn (AKo being the powerhouse that it is) and then decided to bluff the river, figuring you had a weak spade at best.

So you're telling me that your line here with AK no spade is to bet the flop and call a raise and then check/call the turn? What's your line for a blank river? I assume you are also betting 300 on the river here since you said he played it well? If she doesn't have a big spade then she must have had you beat badly on the turn. If she doesn't have you beat badly on the turn, then she must have a big spade and you should check/fold the river. No?
