Forget the fact that he may have a point...

Why should New Orleans be rebuilt?

Why shouldn't New Orleans be rebuilt?

You abandon it, you have a ton of refugees with absolutely nothing, taxing other areas.

You rebuild it, you create jobs, improve the economy, and a ton of other economic benefits.

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay, and I agree.

Still don't see why Hastert should 'shut up'.

Then no more building in LA, forget building in FL...hell, anything we build would get destroyed or worn down.

Excellent line of thinking

[/ QUOTE ]

This thread is fragmented. As I said earlier -- I have no problem with rebuilding it -- but the Government should stop insuring it. Let the free market insure it.

Then when it gets hit in five years, we can again reap the harvest we've sown.

Why can't they re-build it better so that next time the levee system won't fail, how about that.

Time and place, this is neither, he should at least let the bodies be collected before slapping the former inhabitants of New Orleans in the face

It's the major port at the end of Mississippi. I believe it is the busiest port in the US.

I'm not a big fan of Hastert, but I wouldn't mind seeing him become President as the result of a double whammy ouster of Bush and our leader!

So, why not rebuild the city further up the river then? Where this type of thing won't happen? The Mississippi is PLENTY big enough to build a port with just as much functionality slightly further up.
