Default use chat to outplay your opponents? (lc)

Do you use chat to outplay your opponents? If so, how? I generally don't chat (except for "nh" and "ty"). I think it gives away information. Some that I've seen:

- "mmmmmm... fish..." - after a hand to get him steaming
- "show me the money","AA, call if you want to" - right before moving all-in
- "I feel like gambling."
- "my last hand"
- "going all-in next hand no matter what"

Usually just "gh" and "ty", and other civil remarks. It's what's right, and it might get your play just a bit more respect.

Occasionally, if I'm out of the hand, and I really want to see the hole cards of someone else who is clearly considering folding to a big bet....

"Gambooooooooooool!"

I dont believe anything anyone says. Its all part of the bluff. Granted, I am also multitabling so I doubt that I would even see it in a timely fashion.

When I have a hand and someone folds to my raise, they'll say something like "bully" or "nice bluff" to get me to show my cards. I muck without saying anything. Pay to see.

i love when someone tries to call my hand and they are waaaaay off.. i'll muck and then say how right they were in chat.. not too sarcastic, just so they get nice and full of themselves and their great reads.

I'm a big fan of using chat to your advantage. Banter is part of the game, granted it doesn't have to be nasty, but poker is a psychological game. I respect those folks who want to play "above board", but I don't necessarily think it makes you a terrible person if you try to soften someone up with some artful commentary.

Couple examples:

In smaller NLHE games (i.e. Party 25nl), I got a ton of miledge out of a maneuver where you get a massive overbet paid off with a monster when you know your opponent holds a lesser but strong hand. Before pushing, simply go "hmm...no way you have that ace" and toss em in. Theres a surprisingly large number of weak players (maybe not surprising, actually) that will pay off. Perhaps they'd have paid off without the chat, but I really think that it is +ev in some cases.

As the games get bigger, that sort of manuever probably won't work as folks will be considering more than just their cards before paying off. But, having people that are losing at your table is definately +EV, as someone who has already lost a buy-in HAS to be statistically more likely to drop another. Therefore, it has to be in your best interest to get a busted player to rebuy. Some people respond well to taunts ("Well, there goes the last of your bankroll. Someone that bad CAN'T possibly have any more coin."), and others will respond to being comforted ("Wow, what a terrible beat. Don't worry, you can get it back from that fish!").

Either way, chatting is definately +EV in my book. I also base this somewhat knowing that I've been tilted by chat before. For some reason, a LAG that woke up with a good hand and smoked me then chatted "kaboom" got in my head and loosened up my play bigtime.

If it can't hurt, it can't hurt

I got out played by an ok lag at 6max when I folded JJ to villain's river push after the board double paired 9 3 3-blank-9 when he quickly says "Don't worry, I'll show" I sat there and let time run down thinking to myself "he would only say that if he was bluffing" but I still folded because I'm weak-tight. If I recall he had no pair and I think just a backdoor flush draw. We were both semi deep (150BB+) and I was in LP and he was the big blind. Blah
