Semi-steal situation
Okay, I haven't posted any hands lately but I'm in a slight downswing and I guess its time to reevaluate a few things. Sometimes, I think I get a little too aggressive in situations like this.
Here, I'm on the button with AQ and it is folded to me. Normally, I wouldn't cap with AQ but I thought the villain was reacting to what he might thought was an outright steal attempt. I've got a little over 50 hands on the villain and have him as semi-loose aggressive aggressive and he seems like a good player. But I haven't seen how he reacts to a steal attempt. When he checkraised me on the turn, the alarm bells went off and I called down. Was I too aggressive pre-flop? And how does the rest of the hand look? Re: Semi-steal situation
with up to 9 outs, this turn is a safe call. River you can probably fold. I don't expect to see less than 2 pair very often at all.

Re: Semi-steal situation
Where do you get nine outs? The aces and queens may be dirty and jack may split the pot. I give him 5 outs at best. Am I making a mistake here?

Re: Semi-steal situation
Yes, with 5 outs you have to call--but that is the BEST case. With a better read on vil, my outs may be further reduced. Even with 0.5 less outs, I have to fold. This call is marginal. Am I missing something?

Re: Semi-steal situation
I play every street the same. I'm not folding the river sb is out of line often enough to call IMO.

Re: Semi-steal situation
PF looks fine, flop is fine. Fold the turn raise. He could have a set or two pair or even the straight. You will lose here most of the time--usually the vil here has at least two pair.

Re: Semi-steal situation
I like every street. I see threads almost daily with replies advocating an ill-advised calldown vs. passive player's turn C/R and now people want to fold TPGK against an aggressive player in an obvious steal situation...screw that.

You played preflop correctly.
