Creating mods for poker sites

What software do you guys use? Is Photoshop the only way to go? I've played around a bit with Paint and it really doesn't seem like a reasonable alternative.

I know u can get cracked copies of the newest Photoshop on torrentspy.com. My friend let me put a copy on my computer. And my god, after getting used to Photoshop and all its features, I cant even use Paint anymore.
