Help, I keep chasing!

How do you guys keep from chasing down top pair with middle pair, top kicker? I know pot odds etc. But i keep getting in pots (not huge) heads up with middle pair, top kicker and "fish" from my left have top pair weak kicker and i just keep giving them bets. Any tips outside of pot odds on how to play these hands? I don't want to get "monsters under the bed" syndrome but i just keep throwing big bets away.

Try posting some specific hands you were confused about and you will get much better responses. It's really hard to say in a general sense what to do because so much of poker is situation dependent.
