Default question on blind structure in Ciaffone book

I am reading the Ciaffone book PL&NL Poker and it describes NL Hold'em games with blind structures of $5-$5-$10 or $50-$50-$100 for example. Is this really three blinds? Is the first number an ante or what? clue me in please
