interesting. I just moved back to the new orleans area, and in suburbs outside of the city you can play in a NLHE tournament almost any night of the week in different bars. typical entry is $20-$50, with 20-50 players. lots and lots of bad players. but I just heard talk about police cracking down and quietly giving notice to bar owners. this week's busy for me so I won't know if they're going on still until after a bit.
