Default purchase price

$1000 min buyin NLHE at LC. I was small stack with $700. Three players limped for the minimum $40, and I did too, on the button with 76s. Pot was @ $200. The flop came K-8-2 rainbow. I had my feelers so far extended and operational in this game that I was practically worn out by the time they all got done checking around to me. What to bet. What to bet. $40 would be a little rude. $60 is just a bad number in this game. $100 sounds panicked. $120 is more than I can afford right now. $80. That's it. I'll bet $80. Which I did. And they all dominoed out. Coulda sent $40.

When purchasing anything the lowest price that gets it is the best.

It seems like 80 worked well here.
What would you bet if you has 88 instead?

Now say the next hand went down the same except you had 88.
After this hand would you bet 80 again?

Fianlly, What would you bet if the flop was K-8-5 rainbow?
What would you be trying to accomplish in that situation?
Is your stack deep enough to want callers to try and hit the straight and win a large pot?

Sorry for so many questions... -Evan

ni han. i liked "$40 would be a little rude." $80 is perfect because no one feels slighted and it gets the job done. very diplomatic.

"What would you bet if you has 88 instead?"

Zero. (And I'd have folded before the flop with $128.)

"Finally, What would you bet if the flop was K-8-5 rainbow?"

I'm a sucker for infinite odds. I would have checked.

"if you must play, put more money on the table."

Interesting perspective, exactly the opposite from mine. I feel like my most profitable stack size in that game is from about $400-$600. Three out of four times I'll get to $1000 before I get to zero. If I have $500, and I were to add on $500, to bring my stack up to $1000, it'd be like setting fire to a couple hundred bucks.

Sorry my question looked like a $ amount.

I just wanted to know what you would bet with a set of 8's here? I asked all those questions because I wanted to see what a bet from you would look like if you had a strong hand.

I guess $80 is good, but that must mean that you would sometimes bet $80 with a good hand.
