Why do I/we play live?
Lately I haven't been able to get enough of live poker, and I'm not sure why.
I drive an hour to play 5/10 live when I regularly play the same limit online and could stay home and multitable for a significantly better hourly rate and a lot less gas/tolls/rake/tips. The action is somewhat better live, but it's clearly not as profitable. For some reason, I just enjoy playing live poker with real chips and real people. My buddies never want to go with me for the aformentioned reasons, but I still go by myself. When I went tonight and played probably 200 hands live, my friend played 2400. Anyway, I'm not really sure of the point of this post, but I guess I was just wondering others thoughts on why they play live, becase I'm not sure why I like it, but I do. Unless someone can make me see the light, I'll be playing this Saturday night at RockfordCharitableGames 5/10, so gimme a supbro and tell me why I'm there. Re: Why do I/we play live?
Sitting in front of a computer kinda sucks. Talking to people and getting to think about hands for more time is kinda fun. If your card room serves free drinks, well, that's cool too.

Re: Why do I/we play live?
What kind of life is endlessly grinding out a living in front of a computer? Yes, it is profitable but the burnout factor has to be through the roof.
Playing live gives you a chance to be a member of society. Humans are social animals and it is against our nature to always be alone. All your buddies that only play online are missing out on a huge chunk of life. Yes, sometimes it is smokey and smelly and very messy but life is messy. I rarely end an online session with a great poker story but I rarely leave a casino without a poker story to tell. |

Re: Why do I/we play live?
Why go to Willy's Illini Inn instead of getting a six pack and staying at home?
Why get a slice from Garcia's when you could have frozen pie at home? Hooked up to the computer you really only need to use 1 or 2 senses (sight & sound). At a live game you get more sensory input - the feel of the chips, looking in more than one direction, live conversations to hear, the taste of complimentary beer, the smell of the unwashed dirt bag next to you... |

Re: Why do I/we play live?
Purely the social aspect. I hate playing online, everything is faceless, but when I go play live I get to talk to dealers and other players, listen to the really crappy live band, etc.
And the women. From about 10 until the bar closes at 2 on fridays and saturdays the card room is chock full of girls, a good portion of which are very hot. Ah, the benefits of playing where it is a bar first, a card room second. |

Playing live is more fun than playing online. [/ QUOTE ] he said it all. I want to live, not be attached to a monitor slowly getting carpal tunnel syndrome. Also live play alows me more time to think about hands at play, which betters my game. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Re: Why do I/we play live?
Playing can be more fun although it's not guaranteed. But I haven't heard one of the good reasons yet. The players are even worse. I play 5/10 6max online and 10/20 live. The 10/20 players for the most part are not even on par with 5/10 online.
