what does this mean?? what do I have to do to make it HD ready, if anything?

I'm pretty sure this means it can read a HD signal, but displays it at regular tv resolution. I may be mistaken.

No, it means if you have access to an HD signal(i.e. digital cable or satalite when you subcribe to the actual HD channels) it will be able to display it. It will display at whatever aspect ratio the channel broadcasts by default normally. All HD TV's are HD compatible meaning they will display a HD signal that you provide. Unless it is specified as an ED TV which will display HD signals down converted to 480p as opposed to the better looking 720p or 1080i signals.

That TV will do 720p and 1080i so it's good to go. Personally, I'd recommend against getting a RP unless it's LCD, so maybe a Wega or DLP box would do ya (I got my 42" Grand Wega for $1600).

you should look at any TV before you buy it, comparing it to other models. there are more differences today between technologies & brands than ever before, so it pays to do some research.

I have a 3 year old model of that TV, and I like it a lot. The really nice thing is the stretch modes of the TV. If you're watching a non-HD program in 4:3, there are several modes to stretch the picture in different ways to fill the 16:9 screen and not have the picture look too distorted.

By HD compatible, what I think they're trying to say is "HD ready". I'm running an HD signal into my three year old unit, and it's fantastic.

I think "HD ready" means no internal HD tuner.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it does. Mine doesn't have an HD tuner, but it's three years old. I looked at the specs and it didn't say anything about a built-in HD tuner. In my experience that doesn't matter, most people use an external HD tuner anyway.

I picked this exact TV up a few weeks ago and love it. If you are thinking about getting this immediately, to let you know, it's on sale for $900 at Best Buy for black friday. If you pricematch that at Sears you'll be able to get it for $850. Heck of a deal.
