Doing it at 5/10 is just cheap, which pretty much confirms you were at the Taj

How did you know? Are you a psychic?

I was playing 3/6 at Canterbury and a guy tossed a blue chip to the dealer and asked him to chop it. The dealer threw it back and said, "No thanks."

[/ QUOTE ]

I find this incredibly hard to believe. Do you remember which dealer it was?

I don't think its bad at all. At my local B+M the 10-20 give a $1 , the 20-40 $1-2$, so I think $.50 for 5/10 is fine. If a dealer pushed back a 0.50 tip he's an idiot and should be told to get his head out of his arse. He's throwing away other dealers' money.

1. I've seen you at the Borg
2. The Borg does not offer 5/10
3. The Taj does offer 5/10
4. The Taj 5/10 is notorious for being an uber rock garden

this happens all the time at the 2/4 game at the Pot. nothing strange to me... funny though, sometimes the dealers either don't hear, or pretend to not hear, the player say "please chop this" or "chop this" when tossing the $1 white chip toward the dealer.

It was at the Excalibur. I saw many others doing this, and I didn't know any better.*

If you were playing the 1-3 a 50 cent tip is about right. There's no way i pay a buck per pot in a 1-3. Especially since they constantly give you quarters in pots in that game because they drop the rake in 25 cent portions.

Blues are $1. I've seen people tip .50 in 2/4 & 3/6 if everyone folds the flop. I have only ever seen a dealer at Canterbury say "forget it" when no one called a preflop raise and it was just the blinds in the pot in 2/4. His point was "wait until you get a bigger pot".

if the pot is small, I'll tell the dealer "I'll get you next time", and I always do. They know that giving up 5% of a pot (or more if a $1 min chip for a $20 or less pot) is pretty ludicrous.

I've seen dealers push back tips on small/tiny pots. Not surprisingly, they're also the better dealers.

I've been playing in Tunica for so long, that the first time I played somewhere else and heard a tipper say, "Chop it," I LOL, because I thought he was joking. I had forgotten there were people outside of Tunica that do this.

No quarters in the rack, here.
