Have you guys had success with the Stop-and-Go
Have any of you had success with the Stop-and-Go play as outlined by Greg Raymer?
What specific instances have you found it works best in? |

I have used it before and had succes with it. I find it works best when someone in late position comes in for a raise and you are HU in either the small or BB.

Re: Have you guys had success with the Stop-and-Go
it works when you are on a blind (preferably big), and know that your stack is so small that you are committed to the pot. Instead of pushing preflop, when you have no fold equity, you push on the flop, hoping they'll fold a better hand. For example, if there's a limper to me, I have 3x the bb (2x after posting the bb), and I have 82o. 1/3 of my stack is in the pot and I'm going up against only one opponent, which is pretty ideal, so I'm committed to this hand. Instead of pushing preflop and definitely getting called when you're almost definitely behind, you check (or call, if it's a raise), and then push on the flop. This way, if the flop missed them there is a significant chance they'll fold a better hand, anywhere from 9 high to ace high (ace high being folded is less likely, but certainly possible)

Re: Have you guys had success with the Stop-and-Go
I love the play from the blind... but what about when you limp and someone in late posistion makes a blatant steal raise.
Will you commit a sizeable amount and/or all your chips attempting a stop-an-go after having limped in? |

Re: Have you guys had success with the Stop-and-Go
that'll work also after the flop. IMO it is a little riskier to determine that is is a "blatant" steal raise than when you identify a blind steal. but i have had success at pulling this off as well.

Re: Have you guys had success with the Stop-and-Go
I've used it when I hit the flop and know the opponents in the hand will bail if I raise, so I call. Then when a brick hits the turn, I bet out or raise.

That is not at all a stop and go.

Re: Have you guys had success with the Stop-and-Go
Anyone catch Raymer's stop and go on ESPN tonight?
A9 called pre-flop raise and pushed (from BB) on KK7. Almost worked against 55. Was this a successful stop and go? The opponent certainly had to give the call a thought and even when he made the call, Raymer still had any A,9,7 as outs. |
