ASU Sun Devils extend Dirk Koetter

Given the fact that I am forced to watch this defense week in and week out, I might not be thinking clearly. What is the "East Coast" take on this?

I am fairly certian that if Arizona State had lost to the University of Arizona, that Koetter would have been fired. Many of the longtime fans in my section were speculating that he was done win or lose! Now all of a sudden, he's extended? The rumor is through 2010.

Obviously, it's important to have a coach under contract for recruiting purposes. The Board of Regents does not meet again until after national signing day. I was disappointed enough when it became obvious that Koetter would be the coach in 2006. The possibility that he might be here for 5 more years pretty much ruins Christmas for me.
