Default Call insane overbet on river with underfull?

NL 50 - 10 handed

Hero - $48
BB - $52.75

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
I call. MP2 calls. BB checks.

Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.25 MP2 folds. BB calls.

Turn: 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks. Hero bets $4. BB raises to $8. Hero calls $4.

River: 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB goes all-in for 44. Hero... ???

I dunno what the [censored] is going on... is this an easy call?

No reads on BB as it was his first hand at the table.

I never lay this down to these donkeys, are you serious? Fold a full boat with a four card straight on board that is perfect for the BB to overplay?!? fuggedaboutit.

I agree...short of some amazing read I'm not laying this down. Although I call myself Leaky Game for a reason. If he has pocket nines, or 9x for a boat so be it. Chances are he way overplayed his straight.

With that said, why aren't you reraising him on the turn? He just check raised you, chances are he's not laying it down.

So you think he's overplaying a straight...which he made on the turn....and you want to reraise him on the turn when you are behind???

To OP: if you called the river bet, I think you played this hand well. Hero should be glad he pushed because IMO you want all your chips in the middle here.

easy call. it could be straight donking. he could have 7's or 5's full as well. this would be a harder call with picket 5's, but with 8's its not
