Default A preflop situation

100bb stacks. 3 players limp in. One is 50/5, the others limpers are unknown. SB is unknown. I have AKo in the big blind. Today, I checked. Is that bad? Standard?

Doesn't seem that bad to me. I hate big off-suit cards OOP. 2/3 of the time you'll be check/folding. The other 1/3 you'll be very profitable.

Nothing wrong with being weaktight when you're uncomfortable. Sometimes I make a raise here and sometimes I check. I probably raise this more often though.

I'm usually 50/50 on raising big or checking. Playing OOP is ugly, but then again, I think you can win either way.

Benefits of raising-
-take it down now
-narrows the field
-gain more value from hands such as weaker aces, etc.

benefits of checking-
-keeps pot under control
-makes playing OOP easier
-you can c/f if you dont hit anything, making the hand easier to play (ie. like a PP).

btw, when I raise, I'm usually making it 8xBB, maybe a bit more.

I like to raise here if I think it will get me HU with 50/5. If not, checking is okay.

Good point. Definitely has to be a big raise if you choose to raise.

6 max or full ring? Full ring I raise this MOST of the time. Usually takes some abnormal table conditions for me to check this, but I will throw in the check just to mix things up on occasion. I think if there is a 50/5 that I have any type of read on, I am raising everytime.
