Those folks don't know what they are talking about. Marijuana is decriminalized in New York State. The first time punishment for possessing less than 1 ounce of marijuana is an $100 fine. It's $250 for the second time, and $500 for the third time plus a maximum of 15 days in jail. This is hardly a severe punishment compared to some states which will lock you up for a year on your first offense.

Hopefully people will wise up after being caught the second time and be less conspicuous.
