Not to beat a dead horse here, but maybe you should have thought about that when he came to you asking for another $300 while still owing you $500 or whatever.

Re: Lending cash to friends at a card room
Don't lend money around poker EVER. There are ATMs everywhere. If a person doesn't have access to cash, either they don't have it or they didn't plan very well. The broke type doesn't need to be gambling with money they don't have, and aren't likely to pay you back. The poor planner who can't manage his money isn't too likely to plan far enough ahead to pay his bills and pay you back before going to the casino and gambling another paycheck away.
Just don't loan money. Tell your friend to go the ATM and get his own money. You got an $800 lesson. |

Re: Lending cash to friends at a card room
Consider your money gone. Figure you're not getting it back. How many times is it going to take before you stop lending him money? $800 is quite a chunk.
Don't lend anyone money to gamble. If you do, only lend enough that if it isn't returned, it won't affect the friendship. If it's enough to affect you, you've lent too much. Again, consider money lent to gamble, money gone for good. Keep the expectations very low for any return. b |

Some people don't learn it 'til you add another zero. b |

in the word of comedian chris rock
"just don't do it"
the upside is you get to rid yourself of this piece of [censored] "friend" $800 may be a small price compared to what he may have been able to do in the future |

Just don't loan money. Tell your friend to go the ATM and get his own money. You got an $800 lesson. [/ QUOTE ] Before we start jumping to conclusions here.. what did he do w/ this money? You never stated it was used to play poker. In fact, you said you loaned it to him because he was broke and out of a job. If he payed his rent, etc. w/ this money, you need to continue after him about it. If he did indeed play poker w/ this money even being broke and jobless.. he indeed needs a swift kick in the nuts and that money will probably be gone for good as he is a degenerate ass and not really a friend. You stated that he was a friend outside of the poker room. Do you have any mutual friends? If so, definately let them know about your situation so they do not get stuck in the same boat as you. They can even apply a bit of pressure if they see him as well. These things can kill an entire group of friends if let go to far. I had some friends where one (guy A) owed the other (guy B)$2k and he did not have it. Guy A asked another of our friends (Guy C) for $500 to pay the other (Guy B). Guys B and C did not know that dipshit (Guy A)was asking to borrow from one to pay the other. The friend gave him the money and now he had 2 people on his ass and it just ended up getting nasty because the original lender (Guy B) needed cash. Guy B went to C asking for like $100 or something and they both got REALLY pissed when they found out that guy A had borrowed from both. Now C wanted B to give him the $500 back and it just got nasty. The first guy (A) ended up skipping town when he got a good job offer and no one has heard from him since. Guys B and C almost lost their friendship over dickhead guy A! The moral of this story is mostly.... don't lend money, but you already know that now BTW, guys D,E, and F are pissed because they were not mentioned.. until now |
