Apartment key bad beat

I got home late last night. I pulled out my apartment key (which wasn't on the key chain because I had foolishly removed my keys because I was just at the auto repair shop). I dropped it and it somehow bounced UNDER the door into my apartment. I tried unsuccessfully to fish it out with a credit card.

I ended up having to drive to a friend's house who has a spare key.

Today, I tried purposefully bouncing/throwing the key under the door. I couldn't even really get close to getting it under the door.
