Before there was Hansen there was Fergueson as luckiest guy in Poker
Read about his World Championship run for details to Chris's luck.. 5th Street is a good book for that. Anyway looks like Chris wants his title back.
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson v. Mike Sexton: Ferguson Advances to the Final Four (Round 5) Log: Chris Ferguson goes all in from the small blind, and Mike Sexton says, "I'm glad you did," flipping over two black aces. Ferguson shows Q-4 of hearts. The flop comes 7-5-4, giving Ferguson hope with a pair of fours. The turn card is a 3, but it puts two hearts on the board, giving Ferguson a flush draw as well. The river card is the 2 of hearts, making Ferguson a flush that cracks Sexton's pocket aces. Mike Sexton is eliminated, earning $75,000. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson wins the Spade bracket and advances to the Final Four (Round 5), where he will face the winner of the John Juanda/T.J. Cloutier match. |

i doubt it was as bad as it sounds
earlier on, sexton survived the classic matcup of 34against his aces (vs hassan habib), so he was due to get crAAcked speaking of which, gus hansen wasn't in this tournament? |

[/ QUOTE ] Yes he was, he went out in rd 2 losing to Fergueson after winning this "classic" Hansen hand to win rd 1. Date / Time: 2005-03-05 13:35:00 Title: Gus Hansen v. Curtis Bibb: Gus Advances to Round 2 Log: When Gus Hansen pushes all in preflop and is quickly called by Curtis Bibb, other players start making wagers on who has the better hand while they wait for the TV cameras to prepare for the dramatic reveal. Lyle Berman, sitting at the next table, suggests that Gus Hansen will have the worst hand, but will win the pot. Sure enough, Gus reveals 8-4 to Bibb's A-Q, giving Bibb the advantage. But the flop comes Q-9-5 -- all diamonds. Of course Gus has the lowly four of diamonds, but Bibb doesn't have any. The turn card brings the 2 of diamonds, clinching the victory for Gus. The river card puts a flush on the board with the 10 of diamonds, but because of the 2, Gus has just enough in his hand to beat the flush on the board, eliminating Curtis Bibb. Gus Hansen advances to Round 2, where he will face the winner of the Cyndy Violette/Chris "Jesus" Ferguson match. |

Re: Before there was Hansen there was Fergueson as luckiest guy in Poker
We really need fewer posts on this board where the premise involves such fanciful notions as Gus Hansen being "lucky" or "luckier than the next guy" as it's certainly not the case....

In the 2000 Wsop against Cloutier, Fergueson got so lucky. Cloutier should've won it like 3 times, ha.

Re: Before there was Hansen there was Fergueson as luckiest guy in Poker
But invariably there were likewise times before when he got "unlucky."
You can't look at a few hands between two people as proof of one guy being or not being lucky -- c'mon, this is 2+2, home of the That's Not A Big Enough Sample Size Club -- and while luck does play a role in the short term, long term, I don't believe it does. Not for Ferguson. Not for Hansen. (This was my main point, by the way, as sooooo many times you read nonsense stating that Hansen is "the luckiest player around" or something to that effect instead of correctly saying that Hansen is "one of the best players around.") Not for anyone. Barron Vangor Toth www.BarronVangorToth.com |

Re: Before there was Hansen there was Fergueson as luckiest guy in Pok
I think it was Chris Ferguson during the WSOP last year, who said something like " Show me the luckiest player out there, and I'll show you the best player." [paraphrase]
