Never refrigerate a good red. Keep the white cold.

Thanks. I suspected that they were treated differently.

White is generally served cold and red at room temp, but storage is a different beast. You won't ruin a red by keeping it in the fridge, and it's less likely to go bad if you don't plan on drinking it right away. If you just plan on drinking it the next day or something, there's no harm in just leaving it out, either.

Storing either in the refrigerator after opening will not harm them, and will help them last a little ewhile longer. Storing either unopened in the refrigerator for a long period of time is a bad idea. For whites just chill for an hour before openeing. Good wines red or white that can benefit from aging should be stored sideways in a dark cool (50-60F) environment with more than %50 humidity.

Can't afford the bottled wine?

Other then that, it was a good answer.

To the OP, just use a nitro blanket or air pump if its a red.
