I agree with this 100% except that the two movies were hardly similar at all.

WTF? Both movies are about a father / son duo in a situation where one has to rescue the other using a military vehicle that they conviently ( and contrivedly) have access to. Substitute jet for tank and you have the bulk of the movie.
