this is kind of a hijack, but whatever -

My job recently blocked ALL internet access at work (except for the company homepage). The blocking is being done by something called "Websense", does anyone know how/if I can get around this?

I work for a state government and they use Websense. The way it's set up for us is that they block or restrict certain things. They give you a certain amount of time per day to access "restricted" sites (like sports, entertainment, web-based email, etc), which you can use in time blocks (so you want to make sure you open as many pages as possible before the session runs out ). The "blocked" catagory includes things like gambling (and 2+2 by extension ) and porn. By the looks of it your company put almost everything in the "blocked" catagory.

It's not that hard to get around it, at least for me. Some sites don't even get caught by the filter. If you can access google, you can open up the cached webpage and that will get you around the filter. However, it seems like you can't get to google so I don't know if this will work for you.

You could probably set up Remote Desktop (via Windows XP) and just surf the web from your home computer. It's very unlikely that they would block the RD ports, and it would get past the anemic web filters that most companies use.

Or they could do the work they're supposed to be doing and not break the rules that were set in place.
