A Hand That Made Me Happy and Sad and Maybe Happy Again...
Villain in this hand was new to the table. He'd sat for 15 hands, of which he had played 1, and it was for a raise. He didn't show it down.
Party 10/20 (9max, 9-handed) I'm UTG+1 with 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 1 fold, I raise, one fold, Villain (MP1) three-knocks it, folded around and I call. Two to the flop for 7.5 SB. Flop: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I bet, Villain calls. Two to the turn for ~5.5 BB. Turn: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I check, Villain bets, I raise, Villain three-bets, I call. Two to the river for 11.5 BB. River: Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I check, Villain bets, I call. What do y'all think? |

Re: A Hand That Made Me Happy and Sad and Maybe Happy Again...
I'd only call the turn 3-bet if I wanted to checkraise the river. I think you placed villain on AA too soon here.
I'd rather checkraise the flop. |

I think you stopped too soon too. 6 BBs for turn+river.

If we cap and get raised on the river theres a good chance we're beat. However I think your letting villain get to showdown too cheaply when he has AKs, AKo.

It's only been 15 hands.
I agree that on the 6th bet you'll probably be behind more often than not, but you'll be ahead more often on the 5th. Your line only gets 4. |

Some people are aggressive enough to 3-bet this turn C/R with AK, lots of people including me aren't. If you had a read that he was in the latter category, I say good for you. I would think the 3-betting standards in these HU 10/20 duels are a little more liberal though, but I dunno... |

Re: A Hand That Made Me Happy and Sad and Maybe Happy Again...
Hi WD given the hand range of villian i don't like the turn check. Let him call down with his big pair or raise a big ace. I rather get in 1-3 bets vs 0-2 on the turn or worse yet he even folds to a turn check/raise. As played i capp the turn and bet/call the river if he has AA o well.

If you're going to bet the flop you should bet the turn.
