Cache Creek?

Anyone play at Cache Creek in Northern CA? going there saturday w/ some friends, how are the games?

The games are varied. There is 3/6, 3/6 kill, 4/8, and a NL sometimes.

I played on thursday, and the table was filled with rocks for 2 hours. I lost $120 playing against people who would only play the nuts.

They moved some players over from a NL game that broke up who liked playing, and I won my loss + another $50 in about 35 minutes. My buddy had busted out an hour earlier so I had to leave.

My experience (1yr+) at Cache has been that you'll find 3 types of players there. 1) the old farts who wait for the nuts. 2) people fresh from the blackjack tables who like to gamble, and 3) college kids from UCD who spend way too much time watching poker on TV; some are quite good (like a young lady I played with last time) and some are not so good. Just take it easy until you have a feel for the texture at the table.

The table behind me hit a jackpot. I saw a guy get 60 or so hundreds laid out on the table for him.

Hit up the buffet if you're into buffet food, it's pretty decent.

This is probably late for your trip, but in my 3 visits to Cache Creek, I've found the 3/6 gaame to be very soft. You have to have a hand to win, but you'll usually drag a pretty decent pot when you do. On my last trip, I played for about 7 hours. I'd guess that the average pot was around $50 with some exceeding $100. I wasn't running great and managed only break dead even for the session. My previous 2 trips there were very easy wins.

I'm not sure what they spread besides 3/6 and NL, but they have 10-12 tables right in the middle of the casino. NIce place, good food and very good service. The dealers were more than competent (there was exactly one premature turn card dealt - and that was because one of the players kept his cards somewhat hidden) although a few of them were completely void of any personality.

I went to Cache Creek once. I found my 3/6 table (w/ a full kill) to be very soft in general, although looking at the other tables there seemed to be a lot of old fellas with big stacks of chips.

I found the dealers quite amateurish; different rules being enforced with different dealers, e.g. what to do with a kill button after a chop and players moving away from the dealer button. Two dealers even got into an argument at one point about rules. I also saw multiple cases of the dealers misreading hands and trying to push the pot to the wrong person.

I found the atmosphere annoying as well. The 'room' is simply a fenced off area surrounded by slots. If you like all that slot machine noise, this is the place for you.

It's also a long drive from wherever you are. I liked the soft table, but I'd recommend playing closer to home. If you want a long drive, you might as well go to Reno.
