400 6max (Lasts Week :: I\'m on Poker Vacation)
Tight passive game. I am the most aggressive player at the table. UTG has played very straight-fowardly. We haven't played any big pots together. He's limped UTG a few times with me on the button and I have raised, he's called and then folded to a continuation bet on the flop.
We both start with about 500. UTG limps, two folds to me. I raise OTB with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. BB and UTG call. Flop comes Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG checks, I BTP, BB folds and UTG calls. Turn is a the A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG Checks. I bet 3/4 pot, UTG calls. River is the 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG Pushes, I call. EDIT: Just talked with a friend who saw this hand. I got the river action wrong. He checked I bet 3/4 pot he raised all-in. |

I think you have to call. Maybe he has 66 but who gives credit for quads? It will happen rarely enough to make your call profitable. By my very rough 30 second math, there should be about 175 in the pot and its almost 400 to you. Call to either win $85 or lose $400. A fold is too weak.

What happened to dropping down? Or is this a hand from your running bad?
I don't know about betting the turn. You have outs if you're behind, and if he is one of the tight passives, he's not calling with much you beat. Depends on the guy of course. |

yeah this hand is from a while ago. The turn is the street i was confused about. Argued about it with some other people for a while wanted to know what you all thought.
edit: took out my opinion on the right line. |

Re: 400 6max (Lasts Week :: I\'m on Poker Vacation)
If you think villain is straightforward, this can't be a call can it?
If he's not bluffing (seems unlikely), then the hand ranges work out like: Split: QJ (x8), KQ (x6) = 14 hands Lose: 66 (x1), AQ (x6) = 7 hands And you're getting something like 1:5 odds (win 80 vs lose 400). Betting the turn seems OK, to protect vs the flush draw. (eg JJ w/ heart). Plus QJ is behind and calling. Checking behind the river must be right. |

Re: 400 6max (Lasts Week :: I\'m on Poker Vacation)
Hmm i'm having a hard time with this one.
pot the flop is good the turn is a tough one... given his PF action, he's likely got some piece of the flop with JQ,KQ,AQ,66 or a mid pair putting you on a flop CB. I think betting the turn like this identifies your hand pretty clearly, as a decent opponent should realize that you realize that he didn't call the flop with nothing thus you wouldn't fire another round if you didn't have a piece. That should get rid of his unconnected middle pair hands. Him calling your turn bet makes me want to shutdown here, as you're behind 2 potential holdings (AQ,66), ahead of one (QJ), and splitting with another (KQ). I'm checking behind this river, you're not getting called by anything you're ahead of at all. |

turn is a check.
everybody has to stop worrying about a 4th heart. jeezes. pot size is much much more important. |

Re: 400 6max (Lasts Week :: I\'m on Poker Vacation)
I started betting the turn again in spots like this after reading one of BarryG's NL cash game examples in his recent book. But i think I misunderstood the concept and subsequently misapplied it
Amoeba: How big of a river bet are you calling when the board pairs? (after checking behind and then UTG leads) Raising? |

Re: 400 6max (Lasts Week :: I\'m on Poker Vacation)
you will have to tell me the concept.
like all things though, this is definitely stacksize based. |

Re: 400 6max (Lasts Week :: I\'m on Poker Vacation)
I'll post the hand example when I get home. I probably be emberassed to discover its a much different scenario.
Call a river bet after checking behind? Edited my last post after you'd already responded. |
