Exactly, I have a friend who is Chinese and in his mid-30s. He gets carded in casinos constantly.

Forgive me for introducing a slightly different question into this thread, but ... is it common to disallow players under 21 in poker rooms? Is it a California state law, or does it happen in other places too?

I ask because in the cardrooms in Washington, it is not unusual to see people under 21 playing poker - with their wrists stamped "MINOR" in black ink to warn the waitresses not to serve them alcohol.

Its illegal for those under 21 to gamble in California.

The exception is at Indian Casinos where 18 year olds can gamble.

Commerce is notorious for not checking ID's and a number of current high profile players started playing daily at Commerce before they were 21. I know of at least one very successful player who was daily in the 30-60 or 40-80 games at Commerce well before he was 21.

If your going only on weekeneds just make the drive out to morongo instead of risking getting caught. The drive isn't that bad in the evening and now that they moved the poker room out of that tiny ass closet and into a bigger room its not so bad. Plus on fri/saturday nights its like an aquarium in there.

Every week some kid comes in here posting about which casinos don't card, and where you can play in SoCal if you're under 21. Everyone rightly has answered Commerce, which never cards.

Not anymore.

They've really stepped up their security. A young-looking Asian guy walked in the side entrance (the one near the bathrooms and the 1/2 & 2/4 tables) right in front of me, and immediately a guard stopped him: "Hey sir!" And then I walked past them both and he stopped me too. "Hey, sir! You too!"

I am over 21 and look it. A few months ago they wouldn't give me a second look, and the kid in front of me would be at a table already, up a rack.

So kids -- bring a fake ID now when you go to Commerce.

I really thank commerce casino for not enforcing being more strict until i recently turned 21.. As long as u walk straight they never carded.. but u could try Normandie casino in Gardena. I played there last night for the first time and security was very lax, I dont even remember seeing a guy at the door, and the play is very bad, and only one blind! im going in an hr or so
