Default A 2 vs KQ

Because pocket pairs have a better percentage of winning than any other nonpair, I've always wondered whether Ace high would have a similar winning percentage, due to the K Q not hitting. But i could be very wrong due to odds that the pair will trip up. Well which is it? Would you rather have A 2 or K Q

Try PokerStove.
A2 is a 57.8% favorite vs KQ.

If you are looking for a close call, try A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] vs 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

Well without doing the math and using the fact that we know a pocket pair is usually a slight favorite over 2 overcards it should be obvious that A2 is the favorite here.

Note that when the overcards hit, the pair only has 2 outs to win. On the other hand, when KQ hits A2 has 3 outs to improve.

So intuitively you should see that A2 is better off than a small pair against middle cards.
