Is Stud dead?
I am mainly a Holdem player but have entertained the thought of incorporating Omaha and Stud into my game. I have read a little about PLO and played some online but nothing for Stud.
I have heard some say that Stud is dead and I didn't think that was true. What is everyone's thoughts on this? Should a good Holdem player add Omaha to his quiver before trying stud or vice versa? Thanks for the help and I am sorry if this is a topic that has been covered before. I am new to this forum. |

Re: Is Stud dead?
I make more money playing holdem than stud. I consider stud to be my best game and holdem my worst. Lots of very bad players play holdem. Very few bad players play stud.

Re: Is Stud dead?
It's not dead yet. There are still players left on the Internet, and in the east it's still popular. The long-long term prognosis isn't that great, though, without fresh blood moving in.

Very few bad players play stud. [/ QUOTE ] Clearly, you have never played stud in a casino. |

Yea, come down to AC sometime and see how bad some of these people hate money. You'll thank me.

Re: Is Stud dead?
I think a lot of people don't understand the basics of the game.

Re: Is Stud dead?
The thing that I don't get about these posts is that there are probably more people playing stud now then there was 5 years ago. jump on party poker, stop by foxwoods, and see how many games there are going.

Re: Is Stud dead?
Average Saturday night at Taj in AC: 1-3. 1-5, 5-10, 10-20, 15-30, 20-40, 30-60, 75-150 and higher stud is a go. Usually 2 to 3 games of each! While Hold Em is where many of the new players go, many drop ins will play stud b/c they understand it and many rich retirees play stud also. I'm usually the youngest at a mid limit table (if Carlos isn't there lol), but that's ok with me if the game is good.

Re: Is Stud dead?
Yeah, that's true. My concern is that even as stud has grown, hold'em has grown so much more, and if the market cools down, stud might get squeezed out. However, your point is a good one.

Re: Is Stud dead?
Flop games are King.
Stud will be revived when the equivalent of Small Stakes Hold'em is written, not before. |
