Default Stud in Vegas

Hola all,

I probably should post this in the B+M forum, but I figured I would try here first, since well.. this is the stud forum.

It has been a year ( an eternity in my standards ) since I have been out to Vegas. That is all changing August 17th.

Is there any place left that I can find a regular stud game? ( I don't care if it is $1-5... and actually.. since this is a 'drinking trip' .. $1-5 might be a good choice )

I used to like playing in the Mirage $10-20 games ( or $5-10 ) but last I heard those were all but dead.

Last July when I was in Vegas, I went into the Bellagio at about 8:00 in the morning, I asked the floor what Stud games were going on, and he kinda chuckled. He shows me the stud clipboard signup list, not only wasn't there a single stud game ( in one of the poker meccas mind you ), there wasn't even a single name, not 1 on the list, at ANY limit )

So Anywhoo,

With the new casinos now up ( Wynn, nugget ( well cardroom ), etc. ) ) I was just wondering where I might find a stud game?

I've never been but I think the consensus in the forum is that Stud is dead in Vegas.

I can never figure that out. A dinky town like AC can have 75/150 games going, but Vegas has nada, unless you play big mixed games.

CJC,

I played some 5-10 at the MGM Grand about a year ago on a visit. They only had a couple of stud games running, not sure if any was 1-5.

Stud isn't dead in the sense that there are NO games, but...

I think a number of the smaller rooms spread $1-5 stud for the tourists still, even though now most of them want to play hold'em.

When I was just there, the Bellagio had 2! $40/80 Stud games, and 1 $20/40 game. Of course this is during the WSOP, but I think there is still generally a $20/40 game most of the time, from what I hear. The $20/40 while I was there looked awful but I didn't play. The $40/80 that I watched while waiting for a seat at 30/60 HE seemed pretty good, but mostly due to one fish, so who knows in general.

I was in Vegas in early June and played $5-10 stud at the Mirage. The game had a 50 cent ante, and $2 bring in. It only went on one of the four days I played at the Mirage. Two of the locals did tell me it had been going on pretty regulary as full tables. It was played headsup and 3 handed one of the days before I got there as well. There was almost a game going on one of the other days I was there as well, but when they were setting up the table the majority of the players did not come to the table. They also had at least one $1-5 game going on everyday, with a 25 cent ante I believe. They also had an eight handed $15-30 game one day, and it was played 4 handed the other day I was there.

Both the 40-80 and 20-40 stud games at Bellagio were good while I was there, particularly the 40.

was just in vegas last month, there were no 5/10 stud games around. the 5/10 at the mirage had not gone off for a couple months according to the cardroom manager i spoke with. they were running that terrible spread limit, no ante game though. i think its 1-4 or 1-5.

if you like 8 or better, palace station runs a weird 1-3/1-6 tiered spread limit game on fridays that is really good (ie., the players are not really good). the ante is 50 cents and the bring-in is $1, and you can raise anywhere from $1 to $3 (so you can "complete" to $2, $3 or $4). the rest of the hand is played spread-limit $1-3 on 4th st., and spread-limit $1-6 on 5th, 6th and 7th streets. like in most spread limit games, to make things simple most people just bet the max.

oh and since this was wsop time, they had several tables of 50/100 stud at the rio and a 75/150 t.o.e. game too (triple draw, omaha and stud/8).
