Possible new poker show
I'm interning for a film producer in the DC area. Earlier in the summer he was consulting for two television producers that want to get into reality TV. They are creating a show that combines elements of a reality show and poker show. Think Survivor meets WSOP.
A "big" name poker player is already attached as one of the hosts and (as of the begining of the summer) they were working on a female counterpart. Before one of the meetings (he had me attend as a poker consultant! lol) my boss expressed to me his concern that the market is over-saturated with poker shows. I'm kind of skeptical. Do you guys think a poker-reality show would be interesting? |

Re: Possible new poker show
How does this work? I'm confused? Do they play poker for food on an island or something... I don't get it.

Re: Possible new poker show
From what I understand the contestants (a combination of pros and amateurs) would live together in a casino. They were talking about eliminations based on end of the week tournament performances as well as other casino related tasks.
At the point I attended the meeting they were still in the planning stages but were pretty much decided on those elements. |

There's a reality TV aspect already attached to poker, as a lot of the competitors are "the average people" that viewers could, in some way, relate to. |

Re: Possible new poker show
I hate reality TV, so I think this show would be terrible. However, I would watch it a couple times anwyay, and I really hope it makes the air and is a hit.

Re: Possible new poker show
It may have worked a couple years ago - for a short time. But "reality" and poker TV are so tired now. Both concepts are used and abused to the maximum. When I skip through my channels now, if the show has a hint of "reality" to it I keep moving. Poker is almost intersting because I play. But how many coin flip showdowns can I possibly be interested in watching?
