Default Im fairly new to Holdem. Can someone explain what poker programs are?

Hi I've been playing on Pokerstars for about 6 months. I've had a little success, but not much. I see everyone talking about Holdem Programs. What exactly do they do? An explanation would be appreciated. I don't know if its something that tells you what to do while you play, or if its something else. Thanks.

I've read a ton of books but none from 2+2. I just hear people talking about programs like Pokerpro or something. I don't even know what the heck it is.

If you've read pretty much any poker book there had to be some explaination of odds. I know it isn't a 2+2 book, but Matthew Hilger's book Internet Texas Hold'em with the guy on the cover on a beach with a laptop, that book has awesome pre-flop charts. It's a great way to discipline yourself, and Sklansky's theory of poker has some of the best stuff on playing hands in it, and it's written well. There's another book, and I don't know the author off hand, but its called Killer Online Poker. It doesn't have much actual pot odds or anything, but rather a good book on reading tables and betting accordingly.

It's by John Vorhaus. You can find the review here.

I haven't read it yet, but I have heard many good things about it.
