Re: Stud is dead
[ QUOTE ]
btw, I remember when you took your job a few years back. It sounded like a good move at the time, but I gather you are seriously considering a move to full-time poker from this post? I know many folks who have done this, but I still hate it for a smart, educated 25-year-old with other options. Unless you have a huge gift (think Doyle Brunson, Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu) I don't think poker is enough. I love to play, but not as much as I love to write. [/ QUOTE ] I agree. I also really think that people should look at poker as a fun second job. Why quit work when you can come home and play on line for a couple of hours each day. Save some money. If you don't like your job, find something you enjoy. Do that. Jeff, are you only 25? |

The tightest stud game I've ever played in was a 5/10 game at foxwoods. [/ QUOTE ] 1/5 at the Mirage in LV. |

Re: Stud is dead
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Stud may be dying and is certainly quite dead in Las Vegas... [/ QUOTE ] Stud is so dead in Las Vegas that the long running 3/6 stud/8 game at the Palace Station finally died this year. [/ QUOTE ] I think, there is still some 15/30 or else 20/40 at the mirage and bellagio. I do remember seeing a table for 40/80 at the Bellagio last time I was there. |

Re: Stud is dead
[ QUOTE ]
I'm sure there were still a few good draw games in CA back in 1980, but try to find one now! I do think the Internet will keep stud limping along. [/ QUOTE ] Roughly There were tonns of good draw games in 1980, Hold'em was legalized in 1986 . Today there are still a few lowball games. And they are *good*, cause all the good lowball players switched to playing hold'em. So what you have left is the last stubborn few, most of whom never played all that well to begin with. The biggest thing that kills stud, is those awful 1/5 games, the first playable stud game in most casino's is 5/10 with a 50ct ante. Far better would be an LA structure of a $1 ante, which creates a rolling action game, or else 3/6-50c which is also a good structure. However casino managment is dumb, so stud isn't going to last as a low limit game in most cardrooms. Stud/8 has been dead for ever, and its going to stick as a high limit speciallty for the forseeable future. |

Re: Stud is dead
I've been working in Hartford for the past two weeks and have been going to Foxwoods as often as I can. I actually thought there were many mid limit stud games 10-20, 20-40 going. Also the biggest game going on was always 7CS.
I normally go to the Taj and have noticed that good Stud games seem to be very plentiful. All of this has inspired me to become better at this game. Stud is not booming, but I don't think its dead. I'll say its maybe in a real slow decline. If you live East Coast, I thinks its definitely a good game to learn. |

Re: Stud is dead

Stud/8 has been dead for ever, and its going to stick as a high limit speciallty for the forseeable future. [/ QUOTE ] I disagree. Over 400 people showed up for a stud-8 tourney at the WSOP, and there's a reasonable about of action online. I see stud going the way of horse racing--never dying, just fading out of public view and bringing in just enough new guys to keep going. |

Re: Stud is dead
The $1000 Hi/Lo event at the WSOP this year drew almost 600 people, which was the largest field ever for any stud/8 tournament.
