PS rebuys
PS rebuy tourneys seem to be filled with idiots who rebuy from the get go (is this a good idea?), and go all in whenever possible to double/triple/quadruple up early. If not, they have the $10 to rebuy, and try again.
My strategy has always been to just start off with the original chips, and try to catch one of these guys when they have KT or equal crap with my TT or higher or AK. I'll rebuy if I fall to about 75% of my chips, just so I have a little room. Please give me advice to these rebuys, which seem to be a good place to make some money. |

Re: PS rebuys
i don't believe there is anything wrong with re-buying at the very start of the tourney the way these are set up.
it IS truly idiotic to maniacally go after the double-up hand after hand (which i have seen before). i have seen players re-buy as many as 20x on my table because they kept busting out. Mason Malmuth addresses re-buy tourneys in Gambling Theory and Other Topics. it is an interesting read. the top has also been addressed in the multi-table toureny forums. i like the stars re-buys a lot and play them when i want to do something other than have ALL ring-games on my screen. played in a $3 re-buy satellite last night. top 23 got $215 in tourney-bucks (out of about 500 entrants i think). i finished 27th. ouch. those satellites (and some free-rolls on UB and paradise) crack me up because oftentimes there a couple of players that don't realize that 23rd is as good as first place. they are still stealing blinds and taking bizarre risks. on one of my tables, two huge stacks were going at each other. both were already pretty safely in the money....but by the end, one of the guys was all-in and the other guy backed off for the final $25k in a $100k pot or so. it almost looked like chip-dumping....but there really isn't much point to dump when both are already in the money....i watched their play a little bit after that and saw nothing else weird. i think it was just bad play and the other guy may have missed his draw. i also liked the guy who busted out in 40th who cussed-out the big-stack who beat his all-in. he kept asking the table to 'please fold' when he was in the blind even though he should have been hoping for a double-up more than sticking around. way too far from the $$$ at that point. |
