Default Do you open the pot in this situation?

98 suited mid position folded to you. You are taking stuff down preflop and so is only other chip leader. He's in bb, you both have 35bb average stack at table is 8-15, mostly 13bb players. I would fold to a raise all in by one of the 13bb players and its not coming from them that often.

if you had to weigh the risk on this action vs popping the cutoff or button with q9o, what would you say the difference between the two are?

I definitely like raising with that hand versus another big stack. You can very easily fold to a pre-flop raise. If you don't get hit over the head on the flop it's a very easy fold. And if you flop a big hand you could win a huge pot.

Dont get mixed up with thinking you should steal blinds because of the cards you hold, you should steal blinds because of the situation, i.e people will fold unless they have a strong hand.

I would rather open here w/ 98s than AKo against a big stack.

I can always rep TPTK with my betting to try for the pot with a bluff, but hitting a hand like 98s can win you moster pots.
